Micropiles (or mini piles) are load bearing piles, typically ranging from 75 to 300mm in diameter, and can be installed where access for conventional plant is restricted (eg. existing building basements, railway platforms).
Micropiles are typically constructed from a high strength steel casing, with a central reinforcing bar, drilled and installed into the ground.
The equipment and installation methods used, mean that micropiles can be installed in almost any ground conditions, natural or artificial, with minimal vibration and disturbance. This is an advantage during refurbishment or upgrade of existing buildings, which in some cases may still be in use.
